Parole hearing set for Olson

On the cover of today's Globe and Mail, there's an unbelieveable but true story by Kirk Makin. It reminds everyone of another horror from back in 2001 - the same year my sister was murdered by Ralph Power. But this story is about an upcoming parole hearing for perhaps the most prolific serial killer in Canadian history — Clifford Olson. Talk about a waste of time!!!

Who can fathom the release of Olson, the self-described Beast of B.C.? It really makes you wonder about how justice works. I mean should everyone even be eligible for parole - in this case someone who is completing the 25-year parole eligibility requirement of his life sentence for the murder of 11 children? I think not.

Diane Bélisle, a parole board spokesperson, confirmed yesterday that since Mr. Olson, 66, has not signalled any intention to waive his hearing, it is being scheduled for next month. “When the exact date is set, all the persons who requested to be at the hearing will be notified,” she said.

When I hear about this, I just thank god that Power had the decency to waive his review. Too bad Olsen isn't doing the same. At least Power knows he's a threat...
